Like the small slice of grandma's carrot cake, iMovie satisfies, but often leaves you wanting more, particularly in the area of effects. eZediaMotion is a plug-in for iMovie that extends its functionality by adding the ability to add layered effects. Edging into territory generally reserved for Premiere and Final Cut Pro, eZediaMotion allows you to add media files (text, graphics, and even other movies) on top of your currently selected clip.
eZediaMotion really functions like an "application within an app." Simply choose Effects: eZediaMotion, hit the Configure button, and you're in a world-within-a-world.
Choose the file, scale and position it, then simply draw an onscreen path to animate it. An intuitive submenu allows you to edit the path, giving you options to move, add, edit keypoints, equalize, or collapse (straighten) the path vertically or horizontally. Once your path is set, you can control the opacity, rotation, or scale of the media and even preview right in the editor.
This plug-in incorporates all the ease-of-use of iMovie itself. Its design is simply flawless, packing powerful features into an interface so intuitive that the learning curve is virtually nonexistent. To make things even easier for the novice user, eZedia provides instructional videos (in QuickTime 6 format) on their Web site, as well as special tutorials.
Movie titles, motion graphics, even picture-in-picture can all be done quickly and simply in iMovie into a whole new category of editing tool.
