Benefits of Electronic Student Portfolios
Today, portfolios are being created by students from elementary to high school. These portfolios reflect the
student's own work and are a confirmation of their learning, growth, and change. They provide meaningful
documentation of a student's abilities and achievements, that can then be shared with their parents, teachers,
college administers, potential employers, and other students.
Students create portfolios across the curriculum in subject areas including science, math, language arts, and
social studies. An electronic portfolio allows the student to incorporate their work produced from a variety
of mediums, including text, graphics, videos, sounds, and animation.
The benefit of using electronic portfolios is that the student learns how to use technology as a communication tool.
They learn how to manipulate a variety of media to showcase their work, to tell a story, to relay information, and to
make arguments. As stated in the US Department of Education Consumer Guide on Student Portfolios; "students benefit
from an awareness of the process and the strategies involved in writing, researching a topic, analyzing information,
solving problems, or describing observations. Portfolios are an effective vehicle for enhancing student awareness of
these strategies for thinking about and producing work - both inside and beyond the classroom."

Lets Get Animated
Creating Smooth Animations in eZediaMX
The Path Object allows you to create animations in eZediaMX very quickly. Simply draw a Path Object
and link a Graphic Object or Movie Object to it. But what if you want to create a smooth-flowing, or
straight-line animation? Using the Path Edit tools can help you refine and shape your path.
To begin, import a graphic object into your document. Draw a path, then link the Graphic Object to
the Path Object.
To edit the Path Object, click on the Path Object Menu Button and select "Edit Path..."
Use the Move Point and Add Point tools to tweak your path one point at a time. The Move Point tool
can also be used to draw a selection box around a series of points to move them all together.
The most frequently used function in the Path Editing Tools is Equalize Points. This will make
all the points on the path an equal distance apart. After using this function, playback of the
Path in Run Mode will be much more smooth. This function also works on a selection of points.
Finally, to collapse your path into a perfectly straight line, use the Collapse Vertical or
Collapse Horizontal tools.
Using combinations of these tools will help you create a path of any shape, quickly and easily.

eZediaMX Special Objects: An Overview
The Path Object is used to animate graphics, movies, or text by simply drawing a path and linking the media
object to the path. In Run Mode, the media object is displayed moving along the path. You can also use the
Path Object to have a visible line draw itself on the screen by setting the Path's properties to "Visible".
The Placeholder Object is used to create templates by designating places where media can be dropped.
To start, position and size the Placeholder Object on screen to mark the location where you want a picture
or movie to display. When you drag a movie or graphic file onto a Placeholder Object, the media will inherit
the size and position of the Placeholder.
The Reporter Object is used to generate reports about information that users have entered into text fields,
menus, and multiple choice questions. The report is saved as a text file in the Support Files folder of the
project.
The SpeakMe Object is used to read back the contents of any Text Object, speaking with your computer's default
"Text-to-Speech" voice. In Edit Mode, link the SpeakMe Object to any Text Object and then hear it read the text
while in Run Mode.
