eZedia Software Partners with Missouri eMINTS Program Pilot
OSAGE BEACH, MISSOURI - October 20, 2003 - eZedia Inc., a leader in digital media software
technology, announced today at the Missouri Educational Technology Conference, that eZediaMX
and eZediaQTI, are being evaluated in an eMINTS pilot project in 25 of their classrooms.
eMINTS (enhancing Missouri's Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies) is administered
by Missouri Research and Education Network (MOREnet) in collaboration with the Missouri
Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). The goal of the eMINTS program
is to transform elementary classrooms into places for learning where teachers and students
use multimedia tools to better understand the world, work together and achieve at new and
higher levels. Currently the program has more than 16,000 participating students in grades
3-12 in 675 eMINTS classrooms throughout Missouri.
Two years of external evaluation of the eMINTS program have found that students enrolled
in third and fourth grade eMINTS classrooms scored higher on statewide academic tests, in
every subject area, when compared with students on a statewide basis. More significant is
that the eMINTS students whose teachers fully implemented the eMINTS instructional model
scored significantly higher than the statewide student average in every subject area. This
evaluation has been used as an example of "Scientifically Based Research" by the U.S. Department
of Education for meeting the requirements of No Child Left Behind.
Says Monica Beglau, Ed. D., eMINTS Instructional Program Leader, "The eMINTS program is deeply
appreciative of eZedia's willingness to allow our teachers and students to explore the rich
world of multimedia software. This year-long trial will provide us with valuable insights into
the use of multimedia software by students and teachers who are immersed in technology and
creative thinking."
"I am very pleased that eZedia is being evaluated this year in the eMINTS pilot program.
The success of eMINTS can be attributed to the fact that the program teaches students to
think," says Fred Whitehouse, Director of Educational Programs for eZedia Inc. "The use of
eZedia software will present opportunities to extend student expression and further development
of critical thinking and problem-solving skills."
